New NPC Class: Fire Breather

Fire Breather

Fire breathers are performers who can produce a fireball by breathing a fine mist of fuel over an open flame. Although they lack the training needed to be adventurers, they are capable of using their performance skills to defend themselves if need be.

The fire breather could make a PC-worthy class choice, but only for players who wish to create a character who is more interested in performance, than adventuring. That said, the fire breather class is generally reserved for NPCs who happen to be traveling performers.

I don’t think anyone would ever even attempt to play this as a player class. They are a one-trick pony at best. They get less skills than a rogue (who gets more perks) and their fire breathing trick could be easily mimic’d by a rogue (or another class) with use magical device. A 13d4 “fireball” at 19th level is vastly underpowered. Now as an npc class I can see this, but no way for PCs.

Yeah, but to be fair, I don’t think anyone would ever play an aristocrat, or a warrior, either. Nevertheless, the descriptive text for these NPC classes says they might work as player classes in certain situations, and since that’s what I was using as a baseline, that’s what I went with.
